How this site is written, where the information comes from, and what we do when we get something wrong.
Who writes this
Our Pet Health is an independent, owner-run pet health resource. It is not affiliated with any veterinary practice, insurance company or manufacturer. We are not veterinarians, and nothing here is a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Health content is written to help you decide when to involve a professional, not to replace one.
Where information comes from
Health content follows published veterinary guidance. Our vaccination schedules, for example, are taken from the WSAVA vaccination guidelines and the AAHA and AAFP schedules, and those sources are cited on the page itself with links, so you can check us.
Insurance content is split in two. General explanations — how a deductible works, what a waiting period is for — describe standard market mechanics. Provider-specific details come only from the provider's own published material, and each one is recorded with a source URL and the date it was checked.
Our rule on uncertainty
We would rather show a blank than a guess. Where a provider detail has not been verified, the page says "Not verified" and points you at the provider, instead of filling the gap with something plausible. On a page about insurance exclusions, a confident-sounding wrong answer could cost someone a claim — and on a page about symptoms, it could cost more than that.
Tools are rule-based, not AI guesses
The health checker, food calculator and vaccination scheduler are deterministic. They use published formulas and explicit rules, and they show their working in the result, so you can check the reasoning or take it to your vet. The same inputs always give the same answer.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, we want to know and we will fix it. Guidelines change, and providers change their policies without telling us. Use the contact page and point us at the detail — corrections to health and insurance content are treated as a priority.
