About Our Pet Health

We help owners spot pet health issues earlier.

Our Pet Health is an independent team building free tools and honest content for dog and cat owners — and a smart wearable that quietly watches over them when you can't.

A family with their pets

Owner-first

No upsells. No fear-mongering. We write like a friend who happens to know vet medicine.

Vet-checked

Content reviewed against vet-grade sources. Where we don't know, we say so and link out.

Privacy by default

Your data stays yours. No reselling, no creepy retargeting, no dark patterns.

Our mission

Why we built this

Most pets hide illness until late. By the time owners notice the obvious signs, the easiest interventions are often off the table. We believe better tooling — a free symptom checker, plain-English guides, a quiet wearable that catches gentle deviations — can move that window earlier and save real money, real heartache, and real lives.

We started Our Pet Health after watching too many friends and family members face avoidable late-stage diagnoses for their pets. The information existed — buried in vet textbooks and forum threads. The tools existed — scattered across calculators, apps, and over-priced subscription services. Nobody was packaging them for the actual person at home, at midnight, wondering whether to drive to the emergency vet. That's our job.

How we operate

Editorial standards & transparency

You shouldn't have to take a pet-health website on faith. Here's exactly how we work.

How we research

Every symptom guide is built from veterinary clinical references, peer-reviewed studies, and current AVMA/AAHA position statements — then translated into plain English an owner can actually use at 11pm.

How we keep things accurate

Each guide cites the conditions it draws from. We update content when guidelines change. Spot something off? Email us and we'll fix it within a few days — corrections are dated at the bottom of each page.

How the health checker works

It's a transparent rule-based engine — symptom severity weights plus context modifiers (age, environment, duration), with a pattern-matching layer that flags possible issues. No AI, no black box. The full ruleset is the source of truth, not a model. See our Terms for the limits of what it can do.

How we make money

Three honest sources: (1) display advertising via Google AdSense, (2) affiliate commissions from pet insurance and pet retailers when we recommend them — never paid to recommend, (3) future revenue from our smart-tracker hardware. Affiliate relationships are disclosed in any content where they appear.

Important: we're not a vet

Our Pet Health content is for educational purposes only. It is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment by a licensed veterinarian. If your pet is showing emergency symptoms — difficulty breathing, collapse, severe bleeding, suspected toxin ingestion, repeated seizures — please contact a vet or emergency animal hospital immediately. See our Terms & Conditions for the full legal version of this disclaimer.
