How we compare insurance providers
Our Pet Health compares pet insurance providers on published, verifiable policy information. We do not sell insurance, we are not an insurance agent or broker, and we do not receive the information we publish from the providers we rank.

Principles
We publish nothing we have not verified
Every coverage detail, deductible option, waiting period and limit on this site is recorded against a source URL and a verification date. Anything not verified is shown as "Not verified" with a link to the provider, never filled in with a plausible guess. That is why some fields on this site are blank — blanks are honest.
Editorial scores and commercial relationships are separate
Scores are calculated from verified policy fields only. Whether a provider pays a commission, or pays for a sponsored placement, has no input into the score and no effect on ordering. Sponsored placements, if any exist, are labelled as such and sit outside the ranking.
We do not publish prices
Pet insurance is priced per animal and per location and changes regularly. Any price table would be wrong shortly after publication, so we send you to the provider for a live quote instead.
We do not tell you what to buy
The comparison tool narrows a list based on what you tell us. It does not recommend a policy, because the right answer depends on your pet's history and your finances — and because we are not licensed to give insurance advice.
Providers are re-reviewed on a schedule
Each provider record carries a last-verified date and a next-review date. Records past their review date are flagged internally and their unverified fields are withheld from display.
How the scores are built
Every score is computed from fields we have verified. A provider with little verified data gets no score rather than a low one — an unrated dimension shows as "Not rated", not as zero.
- Coverage
- How much of the commonly claimed-for ground the policy covers, from verified fields: illness, hereditary and congenital conditions, cancer, prescriptions, exam fees, dental.
- Value
- The range of deductible, reimbursement and annual-limit settings available, which determines how far a policy can be tuned to a budget. Not a judgement about price, which we do not publish.
- Flexibility
- How many meaningful choices the provider offers across plan settings and add-ons.
- Transparency
- How readily the full policy document, exclusions and waiting periods can be found before purchase. A provider that publishes its sample policy openly scores higher than one that does not.
- Our Pet Health editorial
- An overall figure. It is only shown when the underlying sub-scores rest on verified data, and it can be manually overridden by an editor with a stated reason, which is recorded and shown.
What we are not
- We are not an insurance company, agent or broker, and we do not issue policies or arrange cover.
- Nothing on this site is insurance advice, a recommendation, or an offer of cover.
- Policy documents, underwriting rules and state regulation control in all cases. Read the provider's own documents before buying.
- Availability, pricing and terms vary by state and change without notice.
