FAQ

Dog pregnancy questions

About 63 days (roughly 9 weeks) from ovulation/conception, though anywhere from 58 to 68 days can be normal. Timing from the mating date is less precise, so treat the due date as a window.

About this pregnancy tracker

How accurate is the due date?

It is a window, not a day. Dogs average about 63 days from mating and cats about 65, but the true range runs roughly 58-68 days for dogs and 63-67 for cats — mating date is not the same as conception date, and sperm can stay viable for several days. Treat the window as a planning aid and let your vet confirm with an exam.

Which species does it support?

Dogs and cats today, each with its own gestation length, weekly development timeline, nutrition maths and vet-visit schedule. The data is structured so more species can be added without changing any of the calculation code.

How is the feeding calculation done?

It starts from resting energy requirement, derived from your pet's weight, then applies the multiplier appropriate to the stage of pregnancy or lactation. Energy needs rise sharply in the last third and rise again during nursing — often well above what owners expect.

Do I need an account?

No. The tracker runs entirely in your browser. If you want to keep it across devices you can save it and get a private tracking code in a shareable link — still no account, and no email required.

Can it tell me whether my pet is pregnant?

No. It assumes pregnancy is already confirmed, or that you are planning around a known mating date. Confirmation needs a veterinarian — palpation, ultrasound from around day 25, or relaxin testing.

When should I be worried?

Contact a vet for bloody or foul-smelling discharge, no appetite for more than a day in late pregnancy, straining for more than 30 minutes without producing a puppy or kitten, more than two hours between deliveries, or obvious pain and distress. Whelping and queening complications escalate quickly.
